Some even call this meal planning. Menu planning is all about the planning. They say if you fail to plan then you plan to fail. And a healthy lifestyle starts with food. There is a Buddhist saying that paraphrased says “As within, so without.” Meaning when you are good within yourself then that is what you will exude to others. Food and exercise is a good place to start. Plus, there are ways to eat in a way that partners well with your exercise plan. Or that fits your body. Even eating to help your chakras. But what are the benefits of menu planning?
#1 Cutting your food costs
Did you know that eating local, eating seasonally are the ways that major restaurants cut costs too? And they have to order a week ahead. If you do the same as the restaurants with chefs at the helm not only will you be making sure that you have quality ingredients but also healthy and no additional shipping costs.
#2 Health Benefits
When you plan your menu for the week or even the day, you have one less thing that can bring stress. You have one less question from your family before you even get home. And you have one more stable aspect for your kids. “It’s Taco Tuesday!” Or “Make Pizza Friday.” Or any number of things that both kids and the adults will enjoy for healthy aspects and the ability for everyone to participate. Not to mention that you are more likely to have more seasonal and local ingredients due to proper planning with your local farms that you are already ordering from.
#3 Eating According to Body Type
Quite a few physical fitness trainers don’t actually promote going with one of the new fad diets like Paleo or Keto. They actually go with eating according to your body type. According to Every Day Health, there are three body types. Endomorph, Mesomorph and Ectomorph. Eating for your body type is called the body type diet. Every Day Health says, "...eating for your body type may help you fuel your body more effectively and lose weight as a result." Now while this is not yet proven to work, there are still a lot of merrit and can also accompany your exercise regimen. Check out the link to read more and see if it could help you.
How To Do A Menu Plan
Menu or meal planning, isn't as hard as it might seem. It's just like thinking about what you're going to feed your family for dinner. Except you keep going for the next several days to week. Whether that is just for dinners or for the whole day depending upon needs. That way when you go to the grocery store, farmers market or any other food source you have your list and quantity already set out. This will help reduce waste as well so you will be throwing out less groceries that go bad in the fridge. Or leftovers that you don’t know what to do with. Ensuring that you are eating seasonally will also help keep your menu interesting and your family won’t get bored with your meals. Maybe you can even start experimenting with different recipes. Sharing recipes can also be fun for when you need new ideas on what to make for dinners or other ways to feed your family. Like those from Not Your Grandmother’s recipe cards. Growing up I was always taking care of the horses. Then when it came time to work I would go back and forth from horses to coffee in Seattle to food in California, bringing my horse and dog with me. After going to school specifically for publishing I decided to combine agriculture with food service and have been working to get the name of the great food artisans out to the foodies who adore them. From serving Michelin starred chefs to judging coffee competitions and helping restaurants open for the best possible set up for success that is possible, I’m all about food from the ground up. Always happy to help so let me know if you have a suggestion or would like more information on a topic that I can cover. Thanks for reading!
