Where Can You Travel as a Single Parent and Still Feel Like a Local?
Where the food is local, the pace is slow & your child becomes part of the story. A curated look at the places that inspired Travel Like a Local…With Kids! Where families are part of the experience,
Where Kids Are Included—Not Just Accommodated
There are plenty of places that tolerate kids. And a handful that actively welcome them. But what if you could travel somewhere that didn’t just accept your child—but wove them into the rhythm of local life?
When I travel, I look for places that my kid would find fun too—like most parents, I would assume. But what many people don’t realize is that there are destinations where children aren’t just tolerated—they’re invited in. They’re part of the meal, the music, the market, the moment.
In these places, your child might help stir a pot of mole, join in a town square parade, or be handed a handmade instrument during a local festival. They’re not just standing in line for the next ride—they’re in the story.
So instead of calling these places “kid-friendly” or “family-friendly,” I’ve started calling them what they truly are:
Kid-Inclusive.
Where kids connect with locals, share real experiences, and are naturally welcomed into everyday life.
This is a curated list of destinations that are ideal for single-parent travel—not just because they’re safe or beautiful (though they are), but because they offer something deeper:
